RoboTag Robot - 4th Year Engineering Project

My engineering 4th year project was to build two autonomous robots that could navigate through a maze and play tag. My tasks included project management, mechanical design, electrical design, and software design. My partner for this project was Bernd Pottner.

Carleton Residence Intranet Search Engine

Carleton University has an internal network which consists of shared folders on computers in the university residence. Previously, there was no way to search these shared folders because the university blocked applications like Napster. Hundreds of people would waste many hours randomly searching around from shared folder to shared folder looking for mp3s, TV shows and movies. I created a search engine for the internal network and gave people access in exchange for signing up for various free internet programs. These free interenet programs would in turn pay me for each sign up. The startup cost for this venture was nothing but time and it made several thousand dollars.

Internet Remote Controlled Car

Back in the summer of 1995 I modified a remote controlled car so that I could control it using my computer. I then built software that would allow remote users to drive the car arround which was a lot of fun once I put a web cam on the car. This project didn't really have any purpose but I was very happy with the end result.

Carpentry

From a very early age I've been interested in carpentry. I've made a wide variety of different types of projects including a chest that required strategic placements of magnets to unlock, a tape case with secret compartments, and all kinds of other things.
