Overview

I am a software development consultant with 11 years experience in software design and development. While I have solid technical skills, I take pride in my comprehensive approach to solve core problems and simplify complex situations.

I am seeking future software development consulting opportunities as well as employment opportunities that would provide experience in project management and/or experience working under a professional engineer certified by the Professional Engineers of Ontario.

Areas of particular interest include web based applications, robotics, and IP communications.

Software Developer - 2003 to Present

In November 2003 I started my own consulting practice which has grown to service a number of customers. Projects range from small applications, to larger projects which require hiring and managing additional consultants. My clients include Service Canada, Secure Enabled Networks, The Gordon Group, Validian Inc., and RLD Industries.

My largest contract has been ongoing since July 2004 with the Canada Site at Service Canada. At the Canada Site I work as part of a team of 7developers to develop and maintain a number of web based and stand alone applications.

Sales Engineer - 2002 to 2003

At COAST I developed custom enterprise solutions, developed web based reports, and prototyped new applications to enhance COAST’s core product. Prototyping included development of tools to analyze and report on HTML validation, spell checking, CLF, 508, W3C accessibility, privacy, and security. I delivered over 200 one hour technical sales presentations, and provided technical support to COAST’s larger customers.

Systems Engineer - 2001 to 2002

Just after university I co-founded three companies under the umbrella of Shockwire Technologies. My primary responsibilities were project management, and software development. My secondary responsibilities were hardware development, business development and sales. Large projects include:

  • Trash and Trinkets: Trash and Trinkets was an intelligent web based system designed to accept orders for promotional products such a pens, mugs, and T-shirts. My role was to lead a team with 2 other developers to design and develop this system.

  • AudioCaster: The AudioCaster was an FM radio transmitter designed to wirelessly transmit music from your computer to an FM radio. My role was to design the AudioCaster, manage production, design a website which was the main sales vehicle, and manage our advertising campaign.

  • Online Gambling Authority: The Online Gambling Authority was an autonomous search engine that would search the internet for gambling sites, scan these sites for credentials, verified these credentials, and then post the results to a web site. My role was to develop the software with one other developer. At the time, the software found over 2,500 online gambling sites of which 80% claimed some form of false information about themselves.
